PETG (Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol‑Modified) is a clear, amorphous thermoplastic that combines excellent optical clarity with outstanding impact resistance and chemical durability. As a glycol‑modified version of PET, it offers lower processing temperatures and reduced melt viscosity, making it exceptionally easy to extrude, injection‑mold, or 3D‑print without the brittleness often found in acrylics or the stress‑cracking issues common in polycarbonate. Its high transparency (over 90% light transmission) and gloss make it a popular choice for transparent packaging, point‑of‑purchase displays, and medical devices that require sterilisation by ethylene oxide or gamma radiation. PETG also exhibits good resistance to acids, alkalis, and many alcohols, while being FDA‑compliant for food‑contact applications. The material is tough and ductile, with excellent low‑temperature performance, yet it can be easily thermoformed, die‑cut, and glued using standard solvents. Environmentally, PETG is fully recyclable under class 1 resin codes, though it is slightly more sensitive to prolonged UV exposure unless stabilisers are added.
